The just completed journey that Randi and I did was ambitious and arduous. About 10,000 miles in all, over six weeks. First I drove halfway to New Hampshire (500 miles) and then the next day went on to Dover, NH, where Randi could visit her New England relatives and I was able to see old friends in Portland, ME.

The initial three jobs were a private lesson at Buster’s in Sommersworth, NH, then off to New London, CT to do a show at Crown Billiards, the old pool room of Sy and Dolly. John and Linda Fargo are the new owners. I had intended to do a clinic but the clientele enjoyed pool stories so much that I spent six hours mostly relating tales from pool’s storied past. Gian, our RI friend helped us with obtaining this job and he was also part of the gracious hosting we received from this fine establishment.

Next, off to Corner Pocket, Oeange, NJ, just an hour and a half down I-95. Mike was the room owner. This time a clinic was more in order, followed by our “History Of Pool” power point presentation. Everything went great and we hated to leave but we gad to drive to Indianapolis next so a good night’s sleep was re

Randi

For those who do not know, Grady lost his beloved Randi on August 7, 2009.  She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Grady has since had his hands full running GRADY’S BILLIARDS, and he also has other projects in the works.  Please bear with him if you have posted comments or questions here that have gone unanswered. Grady is a good and thoughtful friend, and a gentleman of the finest integrity and class. His contribution to the world of Pocket Billiards is inestimable.

The Tourney

It is to be known as Senior Legends and we hope it will get better and better each year. I know you all understand that we must start out small with lots of plans for the future.

The Royal Inn has offered a discount for our tournament players and attendees. The rate is quoted as $50. It’s just off exit 65 of I-20. One of our customers went down and checked it out. He said if was clean and comfortable in a safe area and that it has a frig and microwave in the room. No coffee pot but there’s free coffee in the lobby. It isn’t so close as the other hotel but the savings may be worth your while.

If you are flying in and need a ride from the airport to the pool room, just give us a call asap so we can arrange transportation for you.

Players’ meeting is at 2 pm on friday. See you then

Niels

Great news! Niels Feijen has commited to playing in our August tournament. He’s a terrific player and we are proud to have him.

Right now, there’s a 50% chance that Daryl Peach will also be here. We’ll know for sure in a couple of days.

The Senior’s tournament is just around the corner.  We don’t have any big names that are definite attendees but several have said they intended to try to make it. (Nick Varner being one of those)

There will be some good food at all our planned tournaments this year.  The Harsey Brothers are setting up barbeque grills with some interesting menus. They are both big boys and you can tell they know something about food. :-)

Grady is going to another motel a little further from the pool room to check it out.  They want our businesss and have offered a $50 rate.  Will let you know how that turns out. I know most of us look for something clean and comfortable at an affordable rate
