Grady’s Place

For those who do not know, Grady lost his beloved Randi on August 7, 2009.  She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Grady has since had his hands full running GRADY’S BILLIARDS, and he also has other projects in the works.  Please bear with him if you have posted comments or questions here that have gone unanswered. Grady is a good and thoughtful friend, and a gentleman of the finest integrity and class. His contribution to the world of Pocket Billiards is inestimable.

> is to be known as Senior Legends and we hope it will get better and better each year. I know you all understand that we must start out small with lots of plans for the future.

The Royal Inn has offered a discount for our tournament players and attendees. The rate is quoted as $50. It’s just off exit 65 of I-20. One of our customers went down and checked it out. He said if was clean and comfortable in a safe area and that it has a frig and microwave in the room. No coffee pot but there’s free coffee in the lobby. It isn’t so close as the other hotel but the savings may be worth your while.

If you are flying in and need a ride from the airport to the pool room, just give us a call asap so we can arrange transportation for you.

Players’ meeting is at 2 pm on friday. See you then.

Great news! Niels Feijen has commited to playing in our August tournament. He’s a terrific player and we are proud to have him.

Right now, there’s a 50% chance that Daryl Peach will also be here. We’ll know for sure in a couple of days.

The Senior’s tournament is just around the corner.  We don’t have any big names that are definite attendees but several have said they intended to try to make it. (Nick Varner being one of those)

There will be some good food at all our planned tournaments this year.  The Harsey Brothers are setting up barbeque grills with some interesting menus. They are both big boys and you can tell they know something about food.

Grady is going to another motel a little further from the pool room to check it out.  They want our businesss and have offered a $50 rate.  Will let you know how that turns out. I know most of us look for something clean and comfortable at an affordable rate.

Grady’s 9 Ball…Entry fee: $125.  Payout: $10,000 based on 70 players. Dates: Aug. 15, 16, & 17.  Big tables, race to 11, double elimination.

Legends of Bank Pool…Entry fee: $125. Payout: $10,000 based on 70 players. Dates: Sept. 26, 27, & 28. Big tables, race to 5, double elimination.

It’s almost time for the three day event at Grady’s. The tournament is scheduled for Feb. 8th, 9th, and 10th. We’re having One Pocket, 9 Ball, and 9 Ball Banks. You can call the pool room for details.

My grandson is building a website for “Grady’s”. You can see what we have so far by going to www.gradysbilliards.com. Lots of plans for it and there’ll be a monthly calendar for activities here at the billiards room.

The other thing you may be interested in is a tournament coming up. We’ve scheduled a three day event February 8th, 9th, and 10th.  $2,000 added, One Pocket, 9 Ball, & 9 Ball Banks! Grady is even planning 9Ball Banks and 10 Ball Ring Games.

First off, Grady left today to play One Pocket in Mississippi. Anyone within driving distance should head for Southern Billiards in Starkville, MS. He and “Pelican” will be meeting there to catch up on whatever the heck it is those two crazy guys talk about. Bet it has some connection to pool.

He’s going to Chicago to commentate the Archer/Strickland match-up. I teased him about getting a word in edgewise with Mike S. but he says he can hold his own. I understand the match will be available (free, of all things!) so we can watch.

Things are going well at the pool room. The customer base keeps growing and we’re able to pay the bills. The city is pretty much off our backs. There’s a couple of minor things yet to do to keep them happy but they seemed most impressed when they dropped in last week.

On the home front, we’re preparing for the holidays. The minorah and the tree are up in our crazy mixed up family. Out of town relatives will be “under foot” for awhile. I’m especially excited about my grandaughter coming from New Hampshire with my one year old great-grandaughter. I hope to get my mother down for a visit so we can get a five generation photo.
