“Just Mike” asks about the Monk and recalls a time in the early eighties when I beat Warren for $4,000 at $200 a game. Mike didn’t mention that I was giving him 9 to 7. That’s about where I’d put the Monk in the whole history of One Pocket, maybe 25% under the best players in the world.
He was/is a very good game maker and a tough man to beat. Later on, one time in Philadelphia, he beat me with only a ball. HOF, I don’t know but I’ve certainly heard of less qualified men being considered.

Grady, I’m sorry to see you leave at AZ, but I certainly can’t blame you for doing so. I’ll still look forward to reading your blog. Later.
How is Monk these days? I watched him play in Sacramento many times, and had alot of good rail bets over the years there too. One night I remember him playing Wayno”the midget” backgommon for $50 (with the cube). I watched that game for 8 hours and the were about even, Monk smoked an entire pack of cigeretts without getting out of his chair once, I would have bet against that. Last time I saw him was in Vegas about 10-12 years ago, he looked great and he stopped smoking. He is a great guy, while he might not be HOF player he was as far as action was considered, he moved real good.
I would LOVE to know how Monk is doing…. I have not sen him in ages…. I used to live in Seattle…. watched alllll the greats play up there… Being a rail bird in that town, you saw some GREAT action….
Anyway, any word on Monk would be great…
Cheers,
Rhonda
